Spa @ Home: DIY Facial masks & body scrubs

Nothing beats a little me-time.

Whether you need some pampering, or just want to get gorgeous and relaxed for a date night with your man, we've got some awesome DIY spa treatments. The great thing about a good DIY body scrub or facial is that it costs very little (always great to watch the budget, right?!), and many times these ideas use items or products you already have at home. Sit back, relax and let the pampering begin.

DIY FACIAL MASKS

Green tea mask

This one is the ultimate cleanser among masks. The green tea gives an even skin tone and an instant glow.

Ingredients:

1 cup green tea

2 cups of rice flour

½ tsp of honey

Mix all the ingredients and make an ointment. Apply to the skin, massage in and leave for 20 minutes. Rinse off with lukewarm water.

Oatmeal mask

This mask works as an exfoliating mask. It inhibits inflammation of the skin and stimulates new skin cells. If you have more sensitive skin, you can leave out the lemon.

Ingredients:

2 tbsp oatmeal

½ lemon

Cook the oatmeals and add a squeeze of lemon. Let it cool down and apply to the skin. Leave it on for 15 minutes and rinse off with water.

Turmeric mask

The perfect mask for glowy and ultra-soft skin.

Ingredients:

1 tsp flour

1 tbsp turmeric powder

1 tsp lemon juice

1 tbsp milk

Mix everything together and make an ointment. Apply to skin and leave for 20 minutes. Then rinse off with water.

3 DIY BODY SCRUBS

Coffee scrub

There is scientific evidence that caffeine may help diminish the appearance of cellulite.

Ingredients:

1/2 cup coffee grounds

2 tbsp. hot water

1 tbsp. coconut oil, warmed

Add the coffee grounds and hot water to a mixing bowl. Mix thoroughly with a spoon. Add the coconut oil. If needed, add more coffee grounds or more oil to get the consistency right. When you’re satisfied with the consistency, spoon the mixture into a container.

Brown sugar scrub

Brown sugar is gentler on the skin than sea salt or Epsom salt. This makes it an ideal ingredient for sensitive skin. The sugar granules might make your skin feel sticky, so be sure to rinse thoroughly after you’ve exfoliated..

Ingredients:

1/2 cup brown sugar

1/2 cup oil of your choice, such as coconut or olive or almond

Combine brown sugar and oil in a mixing bowl. Mix thoroughly. If needed, add more sugar or oil to get the consistency right. If desired, add one or two drops of your favorite essential oil, and stir it into the mixture. When you’re satisfied with the consistency and fragrance of your scrub, spoon it into a container.

Green tea sugar scrub

Rich in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties, green tea may benefit your skin in several ways.

Ingredients:

2 tea bags green tea

1/2 cup hot water

1 cup brown sugar

1/4 cup coconut oil, melted

Add tea bags to hot water. Let the tea steep until it cools. While the tea is cooling, add brown sugar to a bowl. Add coconut oil and mix thoroughly with the sugar. Once the tea has cooled, add it to the sugar mix. It’s important that the tea is cool so the sugar doesn’t dissolve.
